Brævasshytta – the Restaurant by Bøyabreen Glacier

Brævasshytta is beautifully situated beneath the Bøyabreen Glacier, part of Jostedalsbreen – the largest glacier in mainland Europe.

Here you can enjoy a cup of coffee and a slice of cake while taking in the spectacular views, surrounded by dramatic scenery with the glacier arm majestically in sight.

The menu also features traditional Norwegian beef stew, homemade burgers made with locally sourced meat, as well as a selection of locally produced juices and beverages.

The lodge is built into the moraine ridge close to the national park and has a long history as a place to welcome both locals and visitors. Even before the present building was constructed in 1960, the area served as a gathering place for people coming to experience the glacier. After many decades of operation, Brævasshytta is now run by Fjærland Fjordstove Hotel.

Lonely Planet writes: “Stop by Brævasshytta, built into the moraine from Bøyabreen’s last major advance – even if only for a cup of coffee. With the glacier right in front of you, it feels like dining in an IMAX cinema, only for real.”
