About Atnbrufossen
Atnbrufossen is a waterfall and historic waterworks environment beside Norwegian Scenic Route Rondane. The site preserves the relationship between the Atna river and local industries that used moving water for power. Buildings and technical installations associated with milling, sawing and electricity generation form an open-air museum landscape around the falls.
The museum setting gives the stop more depth than a conventional waterfall viewpoint. Visitors can read how water was channelled and controlled, while the surrounding farms and forest place the machinery in its original environment. Exterior access and the waterfall do not necessarily share the same schedule as guided entry to buildings. River flow, winter ice and maintenance can affect paths close to the water.
Visiting Atnbrufossen
Use the designated museum parking and follow signs through the historic environment. Check opening times if you want access to exhibitions or guided activities, and stay behind barriers beside the river, particularly in high water or ice.
