The hike starts beside Nærøyfjord, where you follow the winding Rimstigen trail uphill. This steep trail climbs 725 metres as it snakes up the mountainside. The final section features stone steps. The route then continues into the mountains through a lush valley. You must cross a river and follow the mountain ridge running parallel to Nærøyfjord. After crossing Rimstigfjellet, you can see Breiskrednosi jutting out above the fjord.

From Breiskrednosi, there is a sheer 1,000-metre drop straight down to the fjord, with spectacular views towards the inner Nærøyfjord and Gudvangen.
