About Ersfjordstranda

Ersfjordstranda is a sandy beach at the head of Ersfjord on the western side of Senja. Steep mountains frame the narrow fjord while the beach opens toward clear, shallow water, creating a sheltered visual contrast with the exposed outer coast nearby. The site is one of the principal stops on Norwegian Scenic Route Senja.

The rest area includes a service building and defined access from the road, helping to concentrate visitors away from fragile vegetation and private land. The beach changes with tide, snow and runoff from the surrounding mountains. Calm conditions can make the water appear inviting, but Arctic temperatures, wind and sudden weather still require caution. The setting is also used by local residents and must not be treated as unrestricted camping ground.

Visiting Ersfjordstranda

Park in the designated Scenic Routes area and use the established beach access. Check tide, wind and water temperature before swimming, and follow current signs for toilets, camping, fires and any temporary closure.
