Start the hike at Kvinnherad Church. Walk up Bjørkesveien, around the bend and up the hill. Follow the road until it becomes a gravel road. Continue to the junction with a sign marked "Skålafjell". Follow the forest road uphill. A new sign on the left is marked "Skålafjellet". The final section is steep and follows a trail with Sherpa steps.
At the summit, there is a large cairn, and the place is called "Navarhaug". For a longer hike, continue along the mountain ridge to Nordlifjell (972 m above sea level). Skålafjell offers views of Rosendal and the Rosendal Alps.
