About Flydalsjuvet

Flydalsjuvet is the classic elevated view back toward Geiranger and the inner Geirangerfjord. From the roadside site, the village appears below at the head of the water while steep mountain walls lead the eye out along the fjord. The composition has been used in travel photography for generations and remains one of the most recognisable perspectives in the region.

The stopping place is arranged on two levels. Paths and ramps connect the parking area with lower viewing positions, distributing visitors across the sloping terrain and providing safer access to the panorama. The installation also incorporates a restored small farm building, linking the modern rest area to the cultural landscape around it. The famous overhanging rock seen in photographs is outside the protected viewing edge; visitors should use the designed platforms and respect all barriers rather than trying to reproduce risky images.

Visiting Flydalsjuvet

Park in the designated area and follow the marked paths to the upper and lower viewpoints. Space is limited when coaches arrive, and snow, ice or low cloud can affect access and visibility; never climb beyond barriers for photographs.
