Galdhøpiggen (2,469 m) from Spiterstulen
Galdhøpiggen is located in Jotunheimen National Park and, at 2,469 metres above sea level, is Norway’s highest mountain. It is one of Norway’s most popular hiking destinations.
From the summit of Galdhøpiggen, you can enjoy fantastic panoramic views of Jotunheimen’s many 2,000-metre peaks. On clear days, you can see as far as Rondane, Dovrefjell and Jostedalsbreen. At the summit, there is also a stone hut serving refreshments during the summer season. This route from Spiterstulen (1,100 metres above sea level) climbs steeply through rocky and snowy terrain, with an elevation gain of almost 1,400 metres, and takes 6–9 hours there and back. For a shorter route, you can start from Juvasshytta, but you will need to cross Styggebreen, a glacier that requires a guided glacier hike.
