Halnekongen – Boat Trip on Hardangervidda
Take Halnekongen, an open RIB passenger boat, across Halnefjorden from Halne Fjellstugu to Skaupa/Sleipa on Hardangervidda. The scenic 30-minute crossing is ideal as the start of a hike or as an easy round trip.
Experience Halnefjorden on board Halnekongen, an open RIB passenger boat that takes visitors from Halne Fjellstugu to Skaupa/Sleipa on Hardangervidda.
The Halnekongen boat route has been operating since 1954. Today, the crossing is made with an open RIB, giving passengers an open-air experience with wide views across Halnefjorden and the surrounding mountain plateau. The journey takes around 30 minutes.
This is primarily scenic boat transport across the lake rather than a high-speed RIB safari, making it suitable for hikers as well as visitors who simply want to experience Hardangervidda from the water.
A Great Start to a Hike
Halnekongen is an excellent way to travel deeper into Hardangervidda before continuing on foot. From Skaupa/Sleipa, hikers can continue towards mountain lodges such as Heinseter and Rauhelleren or explore other routes across the plateau.
You can also take the boat as a round trip and return to Halne Fjellstugu, making it an easy experience even if you are not planning a longer hike.
For an overnight adventure, Halne Fjellstugu also rents out Halnefjordhytta, located on the far side of Halnefjorden. Boat transport with Halnekongen is recommended for reaching the cabin.
Practical Information
Halnekongen operates scheduled services during the summer season, with 24 passenger places available per departure.
Boat transport outside the regular timetable may also be arranged directly with Halne Fjellstugu.
Guests staying overnight at Halne Fjellstugu are guaranteed boat transport and receive discounted boat fares.

Halne Fjellstugu is located directly beside National Road 7 (RV7), making the boat trip an easy addition to a road trip across Hardangervidda between Eastern and Western Norway.
