About Haukland Beach

Haukland Beach lies on the outer side of Vestvågøy, around ten minutes by road from Leknes. Pale sand, clear shallow water and a semicircle of steep mountains give the beach a sheltered appearance despite its Arctic setting. It has long been used for swimming and outdoor recreation and is one of the best-known beaches in Lofoten.

The beach is part of a compact landscape that also includes Uttakleiv on the far side of the mountain. Visitors can drive through the tunnel or follow the old coastal road on foot between the two beaches. Above Haukland, routes toward Mannen and neighbouring ridges offer higher views but require proper mountain preparation. At sea level, tides, winter ice, strong wind and sudden rain still shape the experience. The visitor centre and local facilities help manage a site that receives heavy summer traffic.

Visiting Haukland Beach
