Hike - The Length of Stord

Follow the Sherpa steps towards Kattnakken. At the trail junction on the plateau, continue straight ahead (not right towards Kattnakken).

Sunnhordland

Continue along the trail into the Stord mountains via Martetjøna. The trail curves south-west before turning right and continuing north towards Mehammersåto. The terrain here is flat, allowing you to maintain a brisk pace. Follow the trail along the left side of Stemmetjørna lake. The entire route is marked and easy to follow.

The summit of Mehammerståo lies some distance ahead, and you must cross a few "false summits" along the way. The cairn on Stord's highest mountain is not particularly impressive, but the fantastic 360-degree views across Sunnhordaland certainly are.

Continue north towards Fitjar, with the wind farm visible in the background. The route descends steadily all the way. Follow the trail along the right side of Mosavatnet and Svartavatnet.  The trail then joins a road along Midtvatnet and continues down to the car park at Blekje/Fitar.
