Hike to Gaustatoppen (1,883 m asl)
Gaustatoppen is one of Norway's most iconic peaks, offering spectacular views across much of Southern Norway. On clear days, you can see around one-sixth of the country from the summit.
The hike starts at Stavsro car park (1,173 m asl), located along the road between Rjukan and Tuddal.
The trail begins in an open mountain landscape and climbs steadily through rocky terrain. Along the way, you can enjoy fantastic views of the mountains surrounding Rjukan. The final kilometres to the summit cross scree, but the trail is well marked. At the top, you will find Gaustatoppen mountain lodge, where you can buy food and drinks.
For an easier descent, you can take Gaustabanen, a railway that runs inside the mountain.
