Hike to Hivjufossen
Hivjufossen, one of Buskerud's most beautiful waterfalls, is located near Hovet (Hol) in Hallingdal, about a 30-minute drive from Geilo.
From the large car park, walk about 200 metres along the main road until you reach another parking area. On the opposite side of the road, you will find a sign marked "Hivjufossen" where the trail begins. The trail is well-trodden, with a steady ascent at the start. After a while, it levels out, and you will reach a bench overlooking the largest waterfall. This is followed by another steep section. The trail curves away from the waterfall before levelling out again and leading you to the top.
At the top of the waterfall, at around 1,000 metres above sea level, you can admire the impressive drop of approximately 250 metres. The waterfall is particularly spectacular in spring, when the snow melts and the rivers swell.
