Hike to Høgkletten (163 m) – Værlandet's Highest Point
When you arrive on Værlandet, you will quickly notice the distinctive peaks known as Klettene. They resemble large, rounded rocks dominating the landscape. The highest is Høgkletten, rising 163 metres above sea level, and it is well worth a visit.
The hike starts just a few hundred metres from the ferry terminal. From the car park, follow the North Sea Trail for about 1 km. The trail first crosses gently undulating, open rocky terrain before passing through a dense spruce forest. It then emerges into open countryside, where you can see the three large peaks of Klettene up close. Høgkletten is the one in the middle. The trail leads to the foot of Høgkletten, where the steep ascent begins. The first section crosses bare rock and is secured with a chain. Halfway up, the trail moves onto the central section of the mountain, making it less exposed. From there, simply follow the trail to the summit.
At the summit, there is a postbox and magnificent views. You can see Alden and look back towards Askvoll, where the ferry comes from. If you walk a short distance west across the summit, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of Værlandet and all the surrounding islands.
Return the same way.
