Hike to Melen & Stemshesten

This ridge hike links Melen with Sjurvarden, also known locally as Stemshesten, above the Hustadvika coast. Starting at the Skotten shooting range, the circuit crosses open, wind-exposed terrain and gives continuous views over the Atlantic, islands and mountain coastline. The published route is 14.2 km circuit, with 709 m of ascent; allow about 5 hr 20 min. It is graded demanding and the recommended season is may–october. Park at the Skotten shooting range, where the circuit begins.
