Hike to Mennene (501 m above sea level) on Stord

Sunnhordland

This hike offers magnificent views of the Sunnhordland fjords.

Follow the forest road into the woods and continue past the clearing. From there, the forest road continues northeast for a few hundred metres before becoming a trail. Follow the trail and cross the bridge over the river. The terrain is flat and the trail is good. The trail now leads through the woods beneath the power line and then continues along its left side.

You will reach another trail junction, where you should continue straight ahead, following the sign for "Mennene 2.3 km". The trail now takes you up Bjørnastegen. This is a steep boulder field where some scrambling is required. Ropes have been installed along the most difficult sections.

After Bjørnastegen, the terrain levels out and you enter an area that could be described as Stord's answer to the Grand Canyon. Walk to the cabin, then continue along the trail to the right. Follow the trail up into the large marsh surrounded by gigantic cliffs. It resembles a large outdoor amphitheatre.

The trail continues uphill on the left, taking you above the tree line. You will now enjoy beautiful views of the fjord. Follow the trail marked with small stone cairns until you see the summit cairn on your left.

Walk to the cairn. From here, there are panoramic views across Sunnhordland. Write your name in the logbook and return the same way.

Enjoy your hike!
