Hike to Rivenesflorane (553 m) on Osterøy

This hike offers spectacular views of the fjord!

Bergen

The hike starts at the large bend near Vik on Osterøy. Parking is limited here, so I recommend parking in the large roadside pull-off about 500 metres before the bend (when driving from the bridge).

From the large bend, follow the tractor road up Djupedalen. The road winds uphill. At the end of the tractor road, continue straight ahead and DO NOT follow the road to the left. Shortly afterwards, the tractor road ends, and you cross a bridge where the road becomes a trail. Follow the trail through the gate and into the spruce forest. Here, the trail winds steeply up the mountainside.

Further up the slope, you will reach a trail junction. A sign marked "Rivenesfloarne" is attached to a tree on the left. This is the way to go.

Follow the trail and cross two streams. The trail climbs the mountainside through grazing land. It is very poor and overgrown. In some places it is easy to see, but this changes quickly, so pay close attention to stay on track. There are no trail markers either. Later, the trail passes through dense forest. As you climb higher and the vegetation thins out, navigation becomes easier. Above the tree line, the trail improves considerably and leads south. The old ruins of Rivenesflorane are visible from quite a distance. Follow the trail to the ruins.

Return the same way.
