Skomakernibbå towers majestically over the southern side of Jøsenfjorden, 700 metres above the fjord. The hike starts at the car park at Hagalid. The first 3 kilometres follow a tractor road, taking you first across grazing land and then through woodland. The route is well signposted throughout, so you will not get lost.
As you continue, the tractor road climbs some steep hills and gradually turns into a trail. You will then reach a marshland area where wooden walkways have been built to help you cross the wet bogs. Shortly afterwards, a steep trail leads up to Øksafjellet and involves some easy scrambling. Once you climb above the tree line, you will be rewarded with magnificent views of Jøsenfjorden.
When you reach the top of Øksafjellet, you will be on the mountain plateau. From here, you can see the Skomakernibbå plateau itself to the east. Follow the trail across the open mountain terrain towards the plateau until you reach the sheer Ullviksjuvet gorge. The trail then curves past and around the gorge. You will first reach Karstykket (708 m asl), a smaller rock formation about 200 metres before Skomakernibbå. Karstykket juts straight out and is about 1 metre wide, with sheer drops on all sides. It is a popular place to stop for photos, but walking out onto it is not recommended if you are afraid of heights.
Then continue to Nibbå itself. Walking out onto Nibbå is not recommended, as the rock is loose and dangerous. The trail therefore does not extend all the way to the edge. Finally, make the climb to the cairn on Høgeheia (743 m asl) for an extra reward.
