Hike to Søre Gullfjellstoppen
Søre Gullfjelltoppen (962 m above sea level), locally known as the South Pole, is the southernmost point of the Gullfjellet massif.
From the car park in Hausdalen, cross the bridge and follow the gravel road for about 4 km until you see a small cairn (pile of gravel) on the left. There is also a power line tower that sits lower in the terrain than the others – this marks the start of the trail towards the South Pole. The trail first passes through woodland, then continues across scree and above the tree line into mountain terrain. The hike is known as Bergen's longest uphill climb, with an elevation gain of around 800 metres.
The cairn is located at the southern end of the Gullfjellet plateau (962 m above sea level) and is known as the “South Pole”. Beware of loose rocks. Return the same way or continue on a longer hike across Gullfjellet.
