This popular hike from Ustaoset leads to a summit on Hardangervidda, offering impressive 360-degree views.
We parked and started the hike from the main road. From the main road, follow Verpestølsvegen. For a shorter hike, you can drive along this road, pay the toll, pass through the barrier, and park in the car park just after the bridge.
When you reach the car park on the bend, the route continues along a trail. There is a sign marked "Ustetind" on the left-hand side of the road. From here, follow a well-trodden trail up Ustebergstølen. The trail climbs steadily throughout and is clearly marked with cairns and signs. A few hundred metres before the summit, the terrain levels out and descends. From here, you can see the summit cairn in the distance. There is then a short final ascent to the summit.
The summit offers magnificent views. You can see large parts of Hardangervidda, Hårteigen, Hardangerjøkulen, and Hallingskarvet. You can also just make out Gaustatoppen.
In winter, this is a popular ski tour. Return the same way!
