Hike to Vesoldo (1,046 m a.s.l.) in Kvam

Hardanger
Johan Solberg

The views from Vesoldo are spectacular. From the summit, you can take in the majestic Hardangerfjord, as well as the mountain areas of Fusa, Kvamskogen and Øystese. You can also see Jondal, Folgefonna and the Rosendal Alps.  The outstanding views alone are enough to convince anyone to hike up this mountain.

Not far from Vesoldo lies Tørviknuten, its magnificent neighbour. The summit of Tørviknuten is crowned by an impressive cairn, and from here you can enjoy views every bit as spectacular as those from Vesoldo itself. An extra reward for anyone who chooses to explore both peaks on the same hike.

For those wishing to climb Vesoldo, the route starts at Byrkjenesvatnet, just north of Strandebarm. The 4.5-kilometre trail from the car park at Byrkjenes takes you through a beautiful wooded hillside. Red trail markers guide you steadily uphill, and the path is well maintained all the way to the summit of Vesoldo. As you pass an elevation of 500 metres, you emerge above the tree line, and the landscape gradually changes into mountainous terrain.
