Høgafjellet (868 m above sea level) on Osterøy
Høgafjellet on Osterøy. The highest point on Norway's largest "inland island".
The hike begins at the Osavatnet car park. From here, follow the steps and excellent trail to Nedra Botnavatnet. The entire trail is marked in yellow. Walk along the north side of the lake until you reach the small farmstead. Pass behind it and remember to close the gate.
Follow the trail up to the Øvrebotnen waterfall. Cross the bridge and climb the steps to the dam at Øvrebotnen. Take care, as the steps are steep and may be slippery. Continue along the north side of Lake Øvrebotnen. There are some exposed sections here, but ropes are provided to hold on to. Follow the marked trail past the cabin and up onto the ridge.
You are now above the tree line, with wonderful views over Lake Øvrebotnen. Follow the marked trail south past the Høgaheim cabin and continue towards the summit. After passing the large rock visible from far away, you will finally see the Høgafjellet cairn.
Write your name in the visitor's book and enjoy 360-degree views in every direction. Rispingen and Brøknipa lie to the south, Bergsdalen to the east, and Sørfjorden and Arna to the southwest. We recommend returning along the same route.
Note: As you can see in the photos, we brought a dog, but we do not recommend taking dogs on this route because of the many steep steps.
Enjoy your hike!
