Hovdetrappa in Skurdalen
A short but exciting stair hike near Geilo. The trailhead is about a 10-minute drive from the town centre.
Along the main road, just before Fagerli leirskole, there is a sign marked «Hovetrappa». Park on the opposite side of the road by the turn-off to Nord-Skurdalen.
Cross the main road and walk up to the starting point. First, climb a short flight of steps, then follow the well-marked trail alongside and around a farm before reaching the main staircase. The total elevation gain is about 160 metres, with around 1,000 steps.
The climb is short and effective, with sturdy steps leading from the forest to an exposed viewpoint. Perfect for an evening walk or as your first activity after arriving. The top offers panoramic views of Skurdalen and the hills around Geilo. Return the same way. Suitable for most people – a little exertion, a big reward.
