Isdalen up to Ulriken (643 m above sea level)

The hike through Isdalen to Ulriken is a less-traveled but beautiful route through varied terrain with scenic viewpoints.

Bergen

Start the hike on Tarlebøveien along Svartediket. Turn right at the sign for Isdalen. Take the next road on the right across a small bridge and follow the gravel road to the end. There is a sign for Isdalen here, but the start of the trail is difficult to spot. Look for the sign with an arrow showing which way to go. The trail is quite overgrown at first, but is not difficult to follow. Halfway up Isdalen, you pass the tree line, and the rest of the hike continues through lush and idyllic mountain terrain.

Just before the summit, there is a steep section, but it is not difficult to negotiate. It may be a little slippery on the way down after heavy rain. At the top, the trail joins the route across Vidden in Bergen, where you can turn right towards Ulriken or left towards Fløyen. From Ulriken, there are several ways down, including the Oppstemten Sherpa steps or the new Ulriken Cable Car, which opened in August 2021.
