About Langfoss
Langfoss descends about 612 metres from the mountain plateau to Åkrafjord beside the E134. Unlike many large Norwegian waterfalls used for hydropower, its flow is unregulated, so snowmelt and rainfall directly shape the cascade. From the fjord and roadside rest area, the water appears to spread across the dark rock before passing beneath the road into the fjord.
The marked trail to the upper viewpoints begins near the rest area and climbs steeply through forest and open terrain. It is a demanding hike rather than an extension of the roadside stop, with sustained ascent and exposed viewpoints above Åkrafjord. Visitors who remain below still get a complete view of the waterfall’s height from the shore. In wet conditions both the trail and rocks near the lower falls can be slippery.
Visiting Langfoss
For a short visit, use the signed rest area and view Langfoss from the fjord side of the E134. Attempt the summit trail only with suitable footwear, fitness and weather; it is steep and can be slippery, and parking must remain within marked spaces.
