About Lovund

Lovund is an island community on the Helgeland coast, dominated by the steep Lovundfjellet mountain. It is closely associated with Atlantic puffins, which return to nesting areas on the scree slopes in spring. The local tradition of Lundkommardagen marks their expected arrival around 14 April, though the exact timing and visibility remain natural and variable.

The island is also a modern fishing and aquaculture community with a harbour, homes and workplaces concentrated on the flatter eastern side. Paths provide coastal and mountain views, while protected nesting areas require visitors to keep distance and follow seasonal guidance. Puffins spend much of the day at sea and sightings are not guaranteed simply by reaching the island. Ferry and express-boat connections are essential to every visit.

Visiting Lovund

Plan around the ferry or express-boat timetable and confirm accommodation if staying overnight. Follow local puffin-viewing rules, remain outside nesting areas and avoid noise or drones; check weather and return connections before setting out on island trails.
