Mountain hike to Gravsfjellet (851 m a.s.l.) and Tindefjellet (1,083 m a.s.l.) in Jølster

Sunnfjord & Fjord Coast

This mountain hike leads to a popular peak in Jølster that is frequently visited by locals. There are several routes to the summit. We chose to start the hike from Spar Vassenden. From here, we crossed the main road and followed the road signposted "Flugekvam". At the mailboxes, we turned left and continued along "Storetrævegen". Follow this road to the very end, around the bend. When you see the sign marked "Spelbu" and a farm, turn left. The road now becomes a gravel road. Continue to the first junction and keep right. Shortly afterwards, you will see a white-painted gate. Go through it, then simply follow the trail up through the forest. The trail is marked with red-painted spots on trees and rocks. Some sections are steep and have ropes in place.

Once you are above the tree line and reach Storetrævarden, the views become truly spectacular. From here, continue along the trail to Gravsfjellet (851 m a.s.l.). The trail initially climbs before levelling out as you reach the mountain plateau. Gravsfjellet has an impressive cairn and beautiful views of Jølstervannet. From here, it is approximately 2.2 km to Tindefjellet. Simply follow the trail downhill and then climb the western side of the mountain.

The summit offers views east across Jølstravatnet and towards the mountains surrounding Jostedalsbreen. You would be hard-pressed to find a better view of Jølstervannet. Return by the same route.
