Mountain hike to Knutshøe (1,517 m) in Jotunheimen

Gudbrandsdalen Jotunheimen

Follow the trail across the River Varga (bridge) and continue towards Knutshøe. The route begins with some easy scrambling before you reach the ridge. Then simply follow the mountain ridge to the summit. The ascent is steady throughout, with a few descents along the way. The final section to the summit involves more scrambling. Those who are afraid of heights may find this section uncomfortable, although the scrambling is not particularly difficult or exposed.

There are magnificent views on both sides throughout the hike, with Lake Gjende and Besseggen to your right and the lush Leirungsdalen valley to your left. Once at the summit, you can return the same way. However, I recommend continuing northwest along the ridge, crossing the mountain and descending to the river that flows into Lake Gjende. Then follow the trail to the left through Leirungsdalen back to the starting point.

This hike is suitable for most people with mountain hiking experience. I would not recommend it if you are afraid of heights.

Enjoy your hike!
