Mountain Hike to Molden (1,116 masl) in Luster
Experience the finest views of the Sognefjord. This is one of the most popular hikes in Sogn og Fjordane. In summer, the trail is busy with both Norwegian and international visitors heading to the summit.
Walk to the end of the first car park and take the forest road on the left, heading uphill before continuing along the trail. Many people hike here, so the trail is extremely wide. After a while, you reach another forest road / gravel road. Follow it to a new sign marked "Molden". The route now continues along a trail, with long wooden boardwalks and Sherpa steps. Follow the trail above the tree line, where the fjord views begin to open up.
Continue until you reach the old farm building at Svarthiller. It is the perfect spot for taking great photos.
From here, the trail turns left and climbs a steep section before continuing up more Sherpa steps. A long ascent along the ridge follows, before the climb levels out towards the summit cairn.
We recommend walking to the cairn first, then to the shelter / cabin, before heading southeast to where the mountainside drops steeply into the fjord. Then follow the trail southwest and return the same way.
