Mountain hike to Nesahaugen (665 m) in Fjærland

The summit offers magnificent views towards Fjærland, Jostedalsbreen glacier and some of its glacier arms.

Sognefjord

We started the hike in Fjærland. This involves walking about 2 km along the main road. If you prefer a shorter hike, you can drive this section and park at Homrane, where there are several roadside parking areas. At Homrane, you will see a sign marked "Nesahaugen". Go through the gate – remember to close it, as livestock graze in the area. Follow the path as it winds uphill through the pasture until you enter the forest. Here, the path becomes clearer and is marked with red stripes on the trees and occasional red-painted wooden arrows.

The path begins with a steep climb through the forest and follows a clearly defined route. First, you reach Osloplass, a viewpoint offering lovely views across Fjærlandsfjorden. The path then continues uphill through the forest to Hamrastølen, an old mountain farm at around 475 metres above sea level. Pass the farm and continue to a junction, where you should follow the arrow pointing right. The path now climbs straight uphill and becomes slightly steeper before curving out towards the fjord, then leading back up towards the mountain. Nesahaugen lies just above the tree line. You will first pass a postbox – continue past it and climb the hill behind it. This is where the viewpoint is located. From here, you can enjoy magnificent views towards Fjærland, Jostedalsbreen glacier and some of its glacier arms.

Return by the same route.
