The hike to Samlen via Mælsvegen is a steep and scenic summit hike from Herand. The trail winds through forest before reaching Hardangertrappa – the Sherpa-built steps that take you up the steepest hillside.
The steps project began in 2022 and has been completed in stages. The route continues towards Samlen at 686 metres above sea level, offering sweeping views of Herand, the mountains and the Hardangerfjord.
