About North Cape (Nordkapp)
North Cape is a 307-metre sea cliff on the island of Magerøya, marked by the Globe monument at 71°10′21″ north. The plateau faces the Barents Sea and has become the symbolic end point of journeys through northern Norway. Although nearby Knivskjellodden extends slightly farther north, North Cape is the road-accessible landmark that has represented Europe’s far north to travellers for generations.
The North Cape Hall is built partly into the rock and contains exhibitions, films, a café and sheltered viewing areas. Outside, the open plateau is exposed to wind, fog and fast-moving weather; the sea horizon may appear suddenly after being hidden by cloud. Summer visitors come for the midnight sun, while winter visits combine limited daylight, snow and the possibility of northern lights. The road from Honningsvåg crosses a treeless Arctic landscape and may be controlled by weather, convoy schedules or temporary closures.
Visiting North Cape (Nordkapp)
Allow time for both the outdoor plateau and the exhibitions inside North Cape Hall. In winter, verify road and convoy arrangements before leaving Honningsvåg; at any time of year check visibility, wind and current opening information because weather can close the road or obscure the sea view.
