About Oldevatnet
Oldevatnet is a long glacial lake running through Oldedalen south of Olden. Meltwater from the surrounding glaciers carries fine mineral sediment into the lake, producing blue-green colours that vary with weather and light. Farms, campsites and the valley road occupy the narrow ground between the water and steep mountain slopes.
The lake forms the central approach toward Briksdalen and Briksdalsbreen, but it is more than a corridor to the glacier. Reflections, waterfalls and cultivated fields show how the valley combines an active natural landscape with long-established settlement. Public access is distributed among local stopping places and businesses rather than one lakeside park. The road can be busy with buses in summer and remains narrow in several sections, so spontaneous roadside stops are often unsafe.
Visiting Oldevatnet
Use established viewpoints, accommodation areas or signed parking rather than stopping on the valley road. If continuing to Briksdalen, check traffic and parking arrangements in advance and allow for buses, cyclists and local farm access.
