Voss

Watch out for trains and remember to close the gate. Continue across the bridge. Follow the trail through the forest towards Vollbotnen and Lake Vollbotsvatnet. The trail is good, with a steady ascent all the way. When you see the cabins (one on each side), leave the trail between the cabins and head right, down towards the river. A faint trail leads down, but it is not easy to spot. Cross the bridge at the river.

After the bridge, follow the trail up through the forest towards Tungefjellet. It is easy to lose the trail just after the bridge, but simply head left and you will find it again. Pass Saueplassen on the left, then continue to a clearing (with no trees). Head right up the slope. There is a faint trail on the left side of the clearing. Continue straight through the forest until the vegetation thins out. Above the tree line, the trail disappears. Follow the small stone cairns up through the scree towards Tungefjellet. Pass the large rock on its left side. The terrain now opens out into exposed mountain scenery. Head south-east to the summit of Tungefjellet.

There is no trail for the rest of the hike, but follow the stone cairns all the way to the summit. Follow the ridge south-east and then south. The ascent is steady throughout, with a few steeper sections. There are many loose rocks and patches of snow, so high-cut hiking boots are essential. Once on the plateau, you will first see a false summit cairn. Continue past it and you will see the summit cairn.

Olsskavlen is the highest point in Voss Municipality. You can see both Hardangerjøkulen and Folgefonna. Write your name in the logbook and enjoy the view.

Return the same way or continue across Raundalsryggen.

Have a great hike!
