About Ørnesvingen
Ørnesvingen is the highest hairpin bend on Ørnevegen, the Eagle Road climbing from Geiranger toward Eidsdal. The road opened in 1955 and gave Geiranger an important year-round connection. From the viewpoint, visitors look back over the village and inner fjord toward the Seven Sisters, the Suitor waterfall and the abandoned farm at Knivsflå.
The modern viewing terrace projects beyond the road edge and incorporates a small waterfall into the design. Its position explains both the drama and the practical difficulty of the site: the panorama opens directly from a working mountain road used by buses, motorhomes and local traffic. Eleven hairpin bends lie below, while steep slopes continue above. The view is broad enough to show how farms, roads and waterfalls occupy narrow ledges in the glacial landscape.
Visiting Ørnesvingen
Use the small marked parking area at the bend and stay within the terrace; stopping in nearby hairpins is unsafe and obstructs traffic. Visit early or late to avoid the busiest coach periods and check road, ice and visibility conditions before departure.
