Skrott (1,320 m) from Fitjadalen

Skrott (1,320 m) is located in Kvam and is one of the highest mountains in the area.

Hardanger

The trail up to Skrott is only 4.5 km long, but it is steep, with an elevation gain of around 1,000 metres. Follow the road from the end of the car park until you reach the sign marked "Skrott/Breidablikk". Breidablikk is a well-known DNT cabin located around 1 km northwest of Skrott.

The trail initially passes through spruce forest before continuing through more open deciduous woodland. It climbs rapidly. Once you pass the tree line at around 800 metres, the terrain levels out and you will see a cabin (Håsete). Follow the marked trail uphill to the left. The trail is marked with DNT's red crosses all the way. Continue uphill until you see the next cabin. Turn right off the trail, pass the cabin, and you will see the summit of Skrott in the background. The climb is steep, and the trail zigzags upwards. When you reach the mountain plateau, you will see a cairn. This is not the summit cairn, but it is undoubtedly the finest viewpoint on the hike. From this cairn, it is only a few hundred metres to the summit on a steady incline.

If you would like a longer hike, you can continue further into the mountains and descend to Breidablikk.

Don't forget to enjoy the views across Hardanger – they don't get any better than this!
