Slogen (1,564 m) in the Sunnmøre Alps
This is the steepest route to Slogen. The hike begins with an ascent through the forest.
There is a good trail all the way, but wear sturdy footwear as it can be slippery. There are several excellent viewpoints along the ascent. You can refill your water bottle from a stream at around 600 m above sea level.
Once above the tree line, the incline becomes gentler. The trail then zigzags steeply up to 1,100 m above sea level. Here, on a mountain plateau, it joins the trail from Patchellhytta. The trail continues along the ridge and becomes more exposed. The final section is the most exposed and requires some easy scrambling. You should not continue from here if you are afraid of heights.
At the summit, you are rewarded with breathtaking views of Hjørundfjorden. The summit plateau is not particularly large, so space is limited.
This route to the summit is tough, so I recommend that you have mountain hiking experience and strong knees for the descent. I would say it is harder than the hike to Skålatårnet (1,843 m above sea level).
Enjoy your hike!
