About Solastranden
Solastranden is a long sandy beach west of Stavanger Airport in Sola. The open North Sea exposure produces changing surf and strong wind, while the flat Jæren landscape gives wide views along the coast. Its proximity to Stavanger makes it a heavily used recreation area for walking, swimming, surfing and kitesurfing.
The beach also contains traces of twentieth-century coastal defence and lies within a landscape shaped by dunes and nearby agriculture. Aircraft are a visible and audible part of the setting because of the airport, but access routes and safety zones must be respected. Dune vegetation is fragile, and storms can narrow the usable sand considerably. Several parking areas serve different sections, each with its own signs and capacity.
Visiting Solastranden
Use a designated parking area and the established dune paths. Check wind, surf and tide before entering the water, stay outside airport and protected zones, and follow current payment, overnight-parking and dog rules.
