Stabbesteinsvegen on Osterøy
On beautiful Osterøy, you will find Stabbesteinsvegen, a spectacular road stretching over 7 kilometres along the eastern side of the island.
Lined with no fewer than 1,727 stone bollards, this unique road winds from Blomdalsleitet and the trekking association cabin at Træet, all the way down to the idyllic fjord at Grøtto.
The hike starts on a flat road from the car park in Heggebotn, and it is approximately 2.7 km to Træet farm, home to a DNT cabin. From here, the flat route continues across a bridge and along Lake Torvavatnet, then follows the river down to Lake Botnavatnet. In some places along this section, the terrain drops steeply towards the river on one side. Impressive stone bollards line the entire road.
The road then winds around Lake Botnavatnet, passes several cabins and begins descending towards the fjord and Grøtto. This is the most exciting section. There is a sheer drop on one side, with large stone bollards lining the road all the way down to the fjord.
At Grøtto, there is a jetty, an old cabin and several dilapidated boathouses. Return the same way.
