Svelgabreen (849 m) near Folgefonna
A marked trail leads from the car park to Svelgabreen. Walk to the end of the car park and cross the dam.
After the dam, climb a steep slope and then descend again. The hike crosses rugged mountain terrain, reminiscent of Stølsheimen with its many ascents and descents.
After a while, you will reach a trail junction. You can choose between Vad and Hovudveg. We chose Hovudveg. Here, the trail makes an extra loop along Mosevatnet before heading south towards Midtbotnavatnet.
Continue along the marked trail beside Midtbotnavatnet and then head east. You will now reach the valley where you can see Svelgabreen. There is an emergency shelter here with two beds. Continue north-east and cross the bridge. Take care, as this bridge is exposed. Then follow the trail to the glacier tongue.
Here you can truly appreciate the magnificent glacier tongue of Svelgabreen.
Return the same way.
On the way back, we chose the trail marked Vad.
Enjoy your hike!
