About Telegrafbukta
Telegrafbukta is a park and beach on the southern tip of Tromsøya, around three kilometres from central Tromsø. Paths, lawns, rocky shoreline and a small sandy bay provide an accessible coastal landscape within the city. Across the water are views toward the mainland mountains, including Tromsdalstinden in clear conditions.
The name reflects the area’s connection with earlier telegraph activity. Today it is used year-round for walking, swimming, picnics and winter outings, and it hosts larger public events at times. The water is cold even in summer, while winter brings ice and darkness to shoreline paths. Tromsø Museum and other cultural sites are nearby, making the beach part of a wider city visit rather than an isolated nature attraction.
Visiting Telegrafbukta
Use the public paths and designated parking, which fills quickly on warm days and during events. Check event notices, water conditions and winter ice, and use additional paid parking near the cultural school if the main area is full.
