About Trollstigen Viewpoint
Trollstigen Viewpoint overlooks the steep road that climbs between Valldal and Åndalsnes through 11 hairpin bends. The route opened in 1936 after years of construction and remains an important example of Norwegian mountain-road engineering. From the plateau, paths and cantilevered platforms reveal the road, Stigfossen waterfall and the surrounding peaks from several elevations.
The visitor complex is part of Norwegian Scenic Route Geiranger–Trollstigen and was designed to work with water, rock and the exposed mountain surface. Reflecting pools, rust-coloured steel and concrete guide visitors toward the viewpoints without competing with the landscape. The plateau can often be approached from the Valldal side even when restrictions affect other sections, but access arrangements change with snow, rockfall risk, construction and road safety decisions. The site should therefore be planned from live traffic information rather than an old itinerary.
Visiting Trollstigen Viewpoint
Confirm exactly which approach roads and plateau facilities are open before setting out. Use the main visitor parking and marked paths only; weather can bring fog, ice and strong wind even in summer, and access may change at short notice.
