Urkeegga via Eigilbu (940 m), short loop

Go through the gate and cross the bridge. The route is well signposted. Follow the path on the right side of the river up Langesæterdalen. After about 1 km, you will reach a trail junction.

Northwest Norway Sunnmørsalpene

Do not cross the river; turn right where the sign points to "Urkeegga". When you reach Litlevatnet, you can choose between the long and short routes. As we had to return to Bergen the same day, we chose the short one. It leads directly up to the ridge.

The long route continues further into the valley and up Jenteskaret, which takes you onto the ridge and Maudekollen (1,021 m above sea level). The difference is that the long route gives you a longer panoramic hike along the ridge.

At the top of Urkeegga, a good path leads west towards the Eigilbu lean-to shelter. Along the way, you have panoramic views of Hjørundfjorden, Stålberget and the mountains on the other side. The route then continues steeply down into Urkedalen. Good footwear is recommended here, as the trail can be both wet and slippery.

Many people choose to hike the route in the opposite direction to avoid the descent into Urkedalen. For the best views, however, it is better to follow the route as we did, heading west.

Enjoy your hike!
