About Viewpoint SNØHETTA

Viewpoint SNØHETTA, also known as Tverrfjellhytta, is an architectural pavilion at Hjerkinn overlooking the Dovrefjell mountains and the Snøhetta massif. It forms part of the Norwegian Wild Reindeer Centre and sits at the edge of Dovrefjell–Sunndalsfjella National Park. A walking route from the visitor parking crosses the former Hjerkinn military landscape.

Designed by Snøhetta and opened in 2011, the pavilion contrasts a rectangular outer shell with a warm, wave-shaped timber interior facing the mountains. Stone slabs along the approach interpret thousands of years of natural and cultural history. Wild reindeer or musk ox may be seen in the wider landscape, but sightings are never guaranteed and animals must not be approached. The pavilion follows a summer and early-autumn season and closes when snow conditions return.

Visiting Viewpoint SNØHETTA

Park at the official Hjerkinn visitor area and follow the marked walking route to the pavilion. Confirm the seasonal opening before travelling, bring clothing for exposed mountain weather and use binoculars rather than leaving the path to approach wildlife.
